In spring 2012, the "Peter Pan collar" returned to fashion. This trend gets its name from the first American stage production of J.M. Barrie’s play in 1905. That's really the only instance in which this collar makes an appearance -- in the Disney version and the original stage version, as well as the text of the play itself, there is no mention of a little rounded collar.
This look has really grown on me, and I think its incarnations for fall 2012 are so cute and chic.
I have mixed feelings about the Peter Pan collar as a separate accessory; I suppose I'd have to actually try it on with a top or dress to see how I like it (like in the first image below). I don't think I care for it as a necklace that is not intended as an "add-on" to an existing garment (as demonstrated in the second image).
